The image of Max Frisch that the Bachmann community has maintained for decades needs to be corrected.
My “Biography in Fragments” about Ingeborg Bachmann was published five years ago – Fragments partly because the writer’s correspondence with her life partner Max Frisch was not accessible at the time. Frisch is the only man with whom Bachmann lived under the same roof for a long period of time; none of their other relationships, and there were quite a few of them, had ever gotten to this stage. The relationship lasted from the summer of 1958 to 1963.
