Stephen King’s novel “Billy Summers” is to be made into a film. Superstar Leonardo DiCaprio could take on the lead role of a professional killer.

Cinema viewers around the world may be able to see superstar Leonardo DiCaprio (48) for the first time in a Stephen King film adaptation. As the industry magazine “Deadline” reports, DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way is developing the King novel “Billy Summers”, which will be released in August 2021, as a feature film. Ed Zwick (70) and Marshall Herskovitz (70) are responsible for the screenplay. The potential literary adaptation could be directed by the renowned filmmaker JJ Abrams (56), who is also involved in the development of the material with his production company Bad Robot.

That’s what Stephen King’s Billy Summers is about

In Stephen King’s (75) novel, assassin Billy Summers disguises himself as an aspiring writer in order to take on one last, lucrative job in a small town in the United States. Summers is tasked with killing a co-worker before he can get a powerful crime boss in trouble in court. However, the cynical main character increasingly begins to doubt his client.

The film studio Warner Bros. has secured the adaptation rights to King’s work, as “Deadline” reports. If all those involved behind the scenes are satisfied with the finished screenplay by Zwick and Herskovitz, there would be nothing standing in the way of the start of production. However, nothing is certain in this matter and the adaptation has not yet received the green light to start shooting. Also, superstar DiCaprio doesn’t star in every one of his production company’s Appian Way projects. Later this year, DiCaprio will be seen alongside old star Robert De Niro (79) in Martin Scorsese’s (80) western drama “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
