Lena Dürr at the World Ski Championships: “God is a German skier” – Sport

Lena Dürr wins bronze in the slalom at the Alpine Ski World Championships – the first individual medal of her career. It’s the story of a beloved who lost a lot to win.

From

Johannes Knuth, Meribel

If you understood ski racer Lena Dürr correctly, what would turn out to be one of the best moments of her career initially felt like one of the worst. On Saturday, after her second slalom run at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Méribel, Dürr crossed the finish line and narrowly defended her lead, two hundredths of a second ahead of Norwegian Mina Fürst Holtmann. But there were still three riders at the top, the three fastest of the first run, who would certainly beat Dürr’s time. And so the German first put her head back and let out a scream in which everything seemed to be bundled: the anger about her journey, and this foreboding – that’s not enough.
