League Cup: Manchester City and Pep knock out Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool! | Sports

Finally again… club football!

Only four days after the World Cup final in Doha, club football starts with the cracker Manchester City against Jürgen Klopps (55) FC Liverpool in the round of 16 of the English League Cup.

And Pep Guardiola (51) beat defending champions Liverpool 3-2 in a 5-goal madness!

10 minutes: erling Haaland continues where he left off before the World Cup break! After a cross from de Bruyne, who was bitterly eliminated in the preliminary round of the World Cup, the Norwegian snapped in the usual way – 1:0.

He remains the “Torweger”: Haaland scores for ManCity for the 24th time

But then Liverpool meets to equalize. Veteran Milner deliberately passes into the penalty area to winger Carvalho – who elegantly pushes in to make it 1-1 (20′).

Immediately after the break things really get going! Mahrez plucks a sharp Rodrigo cross from the left and scores the lead (47′).

But almost 20 seconds later, “Reds” star Mo Salah equalized the lead again – 2: 2 (48th). Crazy what a game!

But a World Cup star puts ManCity back in front – and beheads the “Skyblues” to victory. As with the opening goal, midfield star de Bruyne serves a butter-soft cross into the penalty area, where the Dutchman Aké stands perfectly – and completes it with a powerful header to make it 3-2 (58th).

Oh club football, how much did we miss you…

Must have seen to believe This man is NOT a runabout!

ManCity, by the way, with a big surprise in goal: Ex-Bielefeld keeper Stefan Ortega (30) is in the Pep-Elf box, coming to his fourth season.

DFB star Ilkay Gündogan (32) whirls in midfield for the first time after the embarrassing exit of the national team in the World Cup preliminary round in Qatar.

Klopp also does without some World Cup stars. With Uruguay striker Darwin Núñez (23, World Cup elimination in the first round), there is only one Qatar returnee in the starting XI. However, the 80-million man shoots up top-class opportunities again…

Because that’s why Pep and not Klopp is in the League Cup quarter-finals…
