Lawyer Christoph Möllers on his documenta anti-Semitism report – culture

from

Jörg Haentzschel

When anti-Semitic works were found at the Documenta last summer, the horror was unanimous – but the consensus ended with the question of how to deal with the works that illustrated hatred of Jews. Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth has therefore commissioned the legal scholar Christoph Möllers to do an expert opinion. He should clarify how far artistic freedom extends and where the state must and can intervene. Möllers is not dealing with the subject for the first time. He provided legal advice to the “Initiative Weltoffenheit”, which criticized the Bundestag’s BDS decision in 2020. He is also a member of the panel of experts currently examining the anti-Semitic works at Documenta. Its final report is expected in the next few weeks.
