La Liga: Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski mad at Spanish league | Sports

He still can’t believe it!

The three-game ban against Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski (34) remains in place. The Spanish sports arbitration court TAD had recently rejected the appeal of the Catalans.

Lewandowski is still angry about the decision, which is why the ex-Bayern star (2014 to 2022) has now publicly expressed his displeasure with the Spanish league!

In an interview with the Spanish daily sports newspaper ‘Mundo Deportivo’ he says: “I don’t understand because I didn’t say anything to the referee. This gesture meant nothing bad, nothing ugly. I really don’t understand why I was banned for three games for this. I certainly don’t deserve it.”

What happened? In the last league game before the World Cup on November 8, Lewandowski was sent off after half an hour at CA Osasuna (2-1) with yellow-red. Instead of a one-game ban, the Polish international (138 caps/78 goals) was penalized with an extra ban for two more league games.

Because when leaving the field, the striker had touched his nose with his index finger and pointed to referee Gil Manzano (38) with his thumb. Shortly thereafter he repeated the movement.

In the match report, Manzano noted: “When leaving the field, the player twice made a disapproving gesture.”

However, Lewandowski does not want to let that stand and accept it: “I have attached myself to Xavi and Carlos (Naval, assistant coach; editor’s note) who was standing next to the fourth official because we know what we were talking about a week or two ago. That’s it, there was a story behind it and I don’t understand the ban. It is not fair.”

For the world footballer, it was only the second dismissal of his career. Lewandowski, who was still attacking for BVB at the time, saw the red card for the first time on February 9, 2013 in the Bundesliga game against HSV (1:4).

Despite all complaints and protests: The three-game ban remains in place. Lewandowski is missing the leaders in the league in the derby against Espanyol (December 31), in the top game at Atlético Madrid (January 8) and at Betis Sevilla (January 14).

The striker leads the scorers list in the Primera División with 13 goals – but can only expand his goal tally in the home game against FC Getafe (January 22nd) at the earliest…
