La Halle de la glisse gets a facelift in anticipation of the 2024 Olympics

A quarter of a century after its inauguration in the Lille-Sud district, the Halle de la glisse needed a facelift. It must be said that since 2006, “this unique equipment north of Paris” as the town hall had pointed out, has seen riders pass by. Regulars of the place will soon be able to move around in a space and on ramps that have been completely rehabilitated in anticipation of the 2024 Olympics.

The Halle de la glisse de Lille has been selected as a preparation center for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 for BMX Freestyle. Concerned about the visibility that the event would generate, the city will give up a good ticket to renovate and even expand the facilities. First, all the old skatepark modules will be dismantled to be replaced by 21 new modules. “In total, 2,000 m² will be redeveloped to satisfy users of skateboarding, aggressive roller skating, scooters and BMX Freestyle”, assures the town hall.

Modules to learn without hurting yourself (too much)

Other innovations, the municipality will install a zone of learning of figures “with foam tank” as well as a module to learn the acrobatics equipped with a flexible surface of reception. In addition, all the modules will be fitted with a “skatellite traction” running surface, a material that ensures unparalleled gliding quality.

The rehabilitation operations have already been launched and are organized in several stages in order to allow the Gliding Hall to remain open during the works. The installation of the modules should be completed in early 2022. It will take a little longer for the full rehabilitation, which is expected to be completed in 2023.
