Königssee: Bund Naturschutz sues against sewage hose – Bavaria

Who should complain that in Bavaria’s authorities the workforce said goodbye to the weekend with a last, lighter “meal” late on Friday morning. Rita Poser, for example, is definitely not complaining, quite the opposite. The Bund Naturschutz im Berchtesgadener Land, of which Poser is the district chairman, recently filed a lawsuit against a decision that the district office in Bad Reichenhall issued more than twelve hours after the supposed end of work. This decision was issued on a very early Saturday morning at 1.30 a.m., says Poser. Less than half an hour later, the waiting workers began to sink a five-kilometer-long sewage pipe in the form of a concrete-weighted plastic hose in the Königssee.

The fact that something like this no longer happens in Berchtesgadener Land with a subsequent permit or even without a notification may also be due to the local nature conservation association, which likes to win its many lawsuits against various projects. The BN actually had nothing in principle against the new sewer line. He only finds the concrete procedure pathetic again, because he sees himself robbed of his rights to participate as a nature conservation association due to the time pressure that had already built up. In addition, with such an action, there is no guarantee that the new line will not leak again in the near future.

All this had become necessary because a year ago, a similar line was drawn from two alpine pastures and an inn through the Obersee and the Königssee to St. Bartholomä for the first time. The line laid in 1989, which led from there to Schönau on the bank, proved to be leaking during a pressure test. This had not previously been noticed because, according to Poser, there was never a comparison of the flow rates at both ends of the line, which has now again been promised. According to the authorities, this did not damage the water quality of the crystal-clear Königssee, but the whole thing was not appetizing. There was a need for action, and now it is again. The BN has brought the district office and the municipality of Schönau to the negotiating table with his complaint, and a meeting has been arranged for January. Then things could be resolved. There would still be time to substantiate the lawsuit in all its forms.
