Fresh, hot and crispy – that’s how fries should taste. A fries vending machine in Kleve promises exactly that. Instead of ordering at the counter, customers throw three euros into the machine. Five minutes later, the portion is fried, salted and filled into cups. The first glance: rather skeptical, but the result is convincing. Original sound from customers Bernadette Kock and Mareike Hübbers: “Good, hot and crispy. Very tasty.” For four weeks, the machine has been offering French fries at any time of the day or night. The frozen potato sticks are prepared at 175 degrees. Around 100 grams end up in the cup. Ketchup and mayonnaise are available in the machine right next to it. The machine is well received by customers, says Fabian Albers, owner of the snack box in which the machine is located. O-Ton Fabian Albers, owner of Snackbox Kleve: “So at least once a day the machine has to be refilled with fries and of course also cleaned. But until now – the first four weeks are over now and the demand is really high.” The machine changes the fat used automatically. That happens about every four to five servings and it’s between 400 and 500 that it has to be completely replaced Portions. Or then just as needed.” According to the company, the machine has sold around 300 kilos of French fries since it opened. Because when the chip shop closes, the machine is ready. So no one in Kleve has to go without their fries.
