Kita crisis: Anyone who picks up their child at noon cannot work full time – economy

Part-time parents could work more to tackle the economy’s labor shortage, politicians suggest. That’s cynical given the situation in the daycare centers.

New week new luck? For millions of parents across the country, every Monday begins with an anxious glance at the daycare notice board. Are the children being looked after as promised – or is there a lack of staff, once again? The hope doesn’t last long, all too often it’s said: the facility has to close two or three hours earlier, educators are sick and generally in short supply. Some crèches and kindergartens are closing on a daily basis. What follows are desperate calls to grandma and grandpa, the same debates between the parents over and over again – and in the end often the report to the superior that there are minus hours.
