“Shocked and deeply saddened”: King Charles III. Erdogan sent a message after the devastating earthquake in Turkey.

After the devastating earthquake in Turkey, King Charles III (74) expressed his dismay to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (68).

According to current figures, more than 10,000 people died in the 7.5-magnitude quake, and more than 8,500 people have died in Turkey. reports “image” (Status: Wednesday noon).

“Very shocked and deeply saddened”

Charles writes in his message, he and Duchess Camilla (75) are “very shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. “I can only begin to imagine the extent of the suffering and loss resulting from this terrible tragedy and I would like to extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences in particular to the families of all those who have lost loved ones.”

The British monarch went on to write that his thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the disaster, “whether through injury or the destruction of their property, as well as the rescue workers and those assisting in the rescue effort.”

The Turkish ambassador in Berlin, Ahmet Basar Sen, described the earthquake in the Syrian-Turkish border area as “a catastrophe of the century, maybe a catastrophe of the millennium”. A total of around 15 million people are said to be affected.

Monarchs express sympathy

Other monarchs also shared messages of sympathy and support, including King Abdullah (61) and Queen Rania of Jordan (52), King Willem-Alexander (55) and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands (51), Queen Margrethe of Denmark (82), King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden (76) and King Harald of Norway (85).
