Kaufbeuren: Man employs the police 56 times within five months – Bavaria

In the Allgäu, a man has dealt with crimes dozens of times within five months. Because he was taken into preventive custody after a total of 56 police incidents between December 2022 and April 2023, he lodged a complaint with the Bavarian Supreme Court in Munich – but without success.

The judges confirmed that the month-long preventive detention was permissible in this case, a judicial spokesman reported on Wednesday. The person concerned is said to have repeatedly attracted attention in the Kaufbeuren area for crimes such as trespassing, insult, coercion and property damage. He is also said to have threatened people, sometimes using knives.

The police seized five knives and tried to calm the situation by banning them from the house, sending them off, addressing them as dangerous and placing them in a psychiatric hospital. “None of this could prevent the person concerned from committing further crimes,” explained the court spokesman.

Ultimately, the district court ordered custody under the Police Tasks Act. This is possible for a maximum of one month if further criminal offenses or significant administrative offenses cannot otherwise be prevented. The Supreme Court saw the measure as essential. All other attempts to dissuade the man from further actions were unsuccessful. In addition, in view of the 56 police processes, there is an obvious risk of repetition.
