King Charles and Queen Camille arrived at Buckingham

The royal couple has just arrived at the palace. A few moments later Prince William and his wife Kate.

King Charles, suffering from cancer, must take part in the parade in a carriage, instead of riding a horse as he did last year.

Around Buckingham, the British meet

As with every edition of Trooping The Coulour, countless numbers of British citizens attend the ceremony from the sidewalks of the Mall, the long London avenue that leads to Buckingham.

The princess has arrived. Kate Middleton has just been spotted in one of the cars arriving at Buckingham to take part in the Trooping the Color celebrations. Sitting alongside her husband, Prince William, she is dressed in a “pale” outfit, as a Sky News journalist points out.

Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales and Queen of the Press

Kate Middleton’s presence at the king’s birthday ceremony is at the heart of the celebrations. In any case, this is the impression given by the British press: it is difficult to find the face of King Charles on one of the newspaper front pages of this Saturday, June 15. The face of Kate, who is making her media comeback in the middle of treatment for her cancer, is, on the contrary, everywhere.

Most of the headlines paraphrase the Princess of Wales’ speech on Friday June 14: “I’m not out of the woods… but I’ll see you all today”, headlines The Sun. “The princess is taking her first steps towards a return to public engagements,” announces the Daily Telegraph. “The princess reveals the impact of cancer treatment”, we can read in the Times.

Kate Middleton will take part in the birthday parade

This was the big question of this ceremony: will Kate Middleton, undergoing treatment for cancer, participate in the event? The Princess of Wales announced late Friday June 14 that she would take part in the celebrations.

A first since Christmas, the last public appearance of the 42-year-old princess. After a period of unrest over her state of health, the wife of Prince Willliam revealed that she was suffering from cancer in March, the nature of which was not revealed.

She did not, however, say whether she will participate in the royal family’s appearance on the Buckingham balcony with the rest of the royal family. This high point of the ceremony will arrive at 2 p.m. (French time). A very symbolic meeting for the royal family and the opportunity for the British to see the Windsors in full.

What is “Trooping the color”?

Trooping The Color is a multi-centenary ceremony during which the birthday of the British monarch is officially celebrated. For meteorological considerations, this celebration takes place in June, regardless of the monarch’s date of birth.

Charles III’s real birthday is November 14. Queen Elizabeth, who also always had her official birthday in June, was born on April 21.

This salute to the colors is Charles’ second as king. And if last year he had reviewed the troops on horseback, reviving an old tradition, the monarch suffering from cancer will this year be in a carriage.
