Juventus Turin fails in the Champions League round of 16 after a poor performance. For this, criticism from the international press hails.

Juventus have been torn apart by the national press after their embarrassing exit from the Champions League.

“Juve, what a fool!” she commented Gazzetta dello Sport the end of the old lady, after a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the second leg lost 3-0 to outsiders Villarreal in front of their home crowd. “After winning six home games, Juve leaves it to the Europa League specialist Emery, who never made it past the round of 16 in the Champions League,” added the newspaper.

the Corriere della Sera criticized: “Juventus dissolves in the last quarter of an hour. A humiliation that is exaggerated in form but not in substance: one is still very far away from the noble quarters of the old Juve.”

After a good start, Juve fell apart completely in the final stages and all conceded the three goals in the last quarter of an hour, as did the Corriere dello Sport complained: “Disaster for Allegri. (…) The 3-0 looks like a meltdown for Juventus, which collapses after 45 minutes at an excellent level in the final sprint and gives the cynical Spaniards three goals.”

For Juve it is already the third end in the CL round of 16 in a row. They were eliminated by Olympique Lyon in 2020 and by FC Porto in 2021.

Allegri: “Were a bit too naive”

“We put in a good performance for large parts of the game and now we have to accept the result. I can’t blame any of the guys. We were a bit too naive,” said Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri.

At least in the domestic league, the Allegri team still has a chance of winning a title. In the race for the championship, the team is currently seven points behind leaders Milan in fourth place. After winning the first leg of the semi-finals (1-0 against Florence), they have their sights set on reaching the final.
