Big #MeToo affair at the Dutch casting show. Women were groped, had to listen to lewd remarks and felt threatened. Now the judiciary is investigating.

The Dutch judiciary has launched criminal investigations into the scandal surrounding sexual assault on the casting show “The Voice of Holland”.

After reports from five women, investigations were initiated against four participants in the show for possible sexual offenses, the public prosecutor’s office in Amsterdam said on Monday. The police will conduct a thorough investigation in the coming period and question witnesses and the suspects.

Young women report assaults

Dozens of mostly young women reported sexual assault on the show on public television in January, blaming the band leader, the coach and a director. A young contestant on the show accused prominent Dutch rapper Ali B. of pressuring her into sex and exploiting his position of power.

The scandal surrounding the casting show is the biggest #MeToo affair in the Dutch media to date. The rapper denied the allegations. Media entrepreneur and longtime producer John de Mol expressed shock. The TV broadcaster RTL Nederland canceled the show for the time being and announced an investigation.
