With “I’m a star, get me out of here” the celebrities moved into the jungle camp. But one person was missing: Martin Semmelrogge. In his place, a replacement camper has moved into the TV jungle.

It’s time for the jungle camp again: the cult show “I’m a star – get me out of here!” started on Friday evening. on RTL – without actor Martin Semmelrogge (“Das Boot”). According to moderator Jan Köppen, the 67-year-old who was originally announced as a candidate was not allowed to enter Australia. Semmelrogge is “still stuck in Doha,” said Köppen in the first episode of the show, adding: “Maybe one or two previous convictions too many.” Semmelrogge has had trouble with the judiciary several times in the past.

Djamila Rowe instead of Martin Semmelrogge

His place in the first episode was taken by Djamila Rowe, who gained some notoriety for inventing an affair with an ambassador about 20 years ago. According to the broadcaster, the 55-year-old called the RTL show “simply a master class”: “The jungle camp is the largest and perhaps the toughest format on German television.”

The moderator is new this year: after Daniel Hartwich left, Köppen can now be seen alongside Sonja Zietlow, who has been moderating the show since season one in 2004. Back then, 19 years ago, the pop singer Costa Cordalis, who died in 2019, won. His son Lucas is among the participants this year.

Jungle camp back in Australia

The show will be filmed in Australia again for the first time since 2020. In 2021, the jungle camp fell victim to the corona pandemic; there was only one substitute version filmed in Cologne. In 2022, “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” filmed in South Africa.
