Julian Nagelsmann was surprisingly absent in Bayern’s victory over Benfica. Now it is clear why: He tested positive for Corona.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (34) was absent on the sidelines due to illness in the Champions League game against Benfica Lisbon on Wednesday evening (October 20). Now the club gave on his official Instagram account known the reason for this. The 34-year-old tested positive for the coronavirus despite being fully vaccinated.

The message goes on to say: “He will fly back to Munich in an ambulance aircraft separately from the crew and go into isolation there.”

Joint outward journey

Nagelsmann had traveled to Lisbon for the away game at the Estadio da Luz together with the Bayern entourage. At the game itself he was represented by his assistant Dino Toppmöller (40). Nagelsmann was behind “Kicker” information but from his hotel room in contact with the coaching team. In the end it was 4-0 for the German record champions.
