The well-known player agent Jörg Neubauer died at the age of 59. After a serious illness, the law graduate died on Thursday morning in his finca on Palma de Mallorca in the presence of his wife and close family circle, as the family confirmed in a statement on Thursday.
Neubauer suffered from a brain tumor that was diagnosed a year and a half ago. Until recently, he and his wife Kristin looked after national soccer player Leon Goretzka from FC Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt’s goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
Jörg Neubauer: Press spokesman for the GDR football association
As the first and last press spokesman for the GDR Football Association, Neubauer started a career as a consultant after the fall of the Wall due to the transfers of GDR national players like Andreas Thom to Bayer Leverkusen. In his ascent to one of the most established player advisors in Germany, Neubauer was helped by transfers such as that of Sebastian Deisler from Hertha BSC to Bayern Munich or Christoph Metzelder from Borussia Dortmund to Real Madrid, to which Sami Khedira also moved with the help of Neubauer. On the other hand, Neubauer superstar Raul mediated from Royal to FC Schalke 04.
Neubauer also ran for a place on the Presidium of Hertha BSC in 2016. He had developed a particularly emotional relationship with the capital city club since the late 1990s. But his candidacy failed.
