Jonathan Bailey (“The Bridgerton Chronicle”) explains why he finally came out

He kept his sexual orientation a secret for so long because Jonathan Bailey remembered advice a friend gave him early in his career: “There are two things you never wants to know: if you are an alcoholic, or if you are gay”. The star of The Bridgerton Chronicle therefore chose to hide part of his life for a whole section of his career.

“All it takes is for one of those people in a position of power to say it for it to reverberate. So, yes, of course, I thought that. Of course, I thought that in order to be happy, I had to be straight, ”he confided in an interview for QG.

But when he was in his twenties, the one who plays Anthony Bridgerton in the already cult series chose to come out, and stop asking questions.

“I got to a point where I was like, ‘Too bad!’ I’d much rather hold my boyfriend’s hand in public or be able to put my own picture on Tinder, and not be so concerned about it, than getting a role…” he explained.

Different vision

Although he plays a heterosexual man in the Netflix production despite being gay, Jonathan Bailey believes that his experience of love gives him a different view of romance and has helped make his character a fan favorite.

“Playing Anthony forced me to think about love very often. You put your life experiences into your work. What’s most interesting is not necessarily having to talk about what it is, and keeping a sense of confidentiality (about your view of love),” he said.

The second season of the series will focus on Anthony’s quest to find a wife, and his love triangle with sisters Sharma, Kate and Edwina. The sequel to The Adventures of the Bridgerton Family hits Netflix on March 25.
