An ex-Sex Pistols at Eurovision? This perspective is quite possible: this Monday, the RTE channel announced the list of six artists who will participate in Eurosong 2023the Irish selection for the competition and among them is Public Image Ltd (PiL), John Lydon’s group.

John Lydon, known as Johnny Rotten when he was the leader of the Sex Pistols, was born in England 66 years ago to Irish parents – his mother was from County Cork and his father from Galway.

However, remember that at Eurovision a country can be represented by an artist of any nationality.

The song with which the group of John Lydon will compete in the Irish selection is called Hawaii. According to the official website of Eurovisionit is a “love letter to Nora, who has been married for almost fifty years, and who lives with Alzheimer’s disease”.

melancholic ballad

Far from the provocative bursts of punk, Hawaii is a melancholy and intimate ballad, in which the singer recalls the happy times spent with his wife on this Pacific archipelago.

“The song is dedicated to anyone going through a difficult time, with the person who means the most to them. It is also a message of hope that love can win all battles,” said John Lydon, according to comments reported by the contest site.

Public Image Ltd. will try to win his Eurovision ticket duringEurosong 2023, a program broadcast in February on RTE.
