  • Despite the sanitary context, the large contemporary art exhibition from the Pinault Collection will take place this summer in Rennes.
  • It will take place from June 12 to August 29 at the Couvent des Jacobins and will be free for children under 26.
  • The works of 57 artists will be exhibited, notably with Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, true stars of contemporary art.

In view of the health context, we still do not know what the cultural summer will look like. While some event planners have already drawn a line on 2021, others prefer to remain optimistic. Canceled last year, the major contemporary art exhibition in the Pinault Collection should take place this summer in Rennes with an opening to the public scheduled for June 12.

Baptized Beyond color, this year it will have for theme black and white, the colors of the famous Gwenn Ha Du. The exhibition, which will be held until August 29 at the Couvent des Jacobins, will bring together 57 international artists and around a hundred works. All come from the Pinault collection, the Breton billionaire being at the head of one of the most important collections of contemporary art in the world.

All summer long, the public will be able to discover the works of real stars like Jeff Koons or Damien Hirst, whose creations are snapped up for tens of millions of euros. Other internationally renowned artists will also be exhibited, such as the American painter and photographer Man Ray, Daniel Buren, Pierre Soulages, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Raymond Depardon. Even Zidane will be there with the sculpture of Adel Abdessemed, which reproduces the header given by Zizou to Materazzi in the final of the 2006 World Cup, which will be on display.

Free for children under 26

In parallel with the event, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes will host the exhibition The raw color. It will focus on the link that unites matter and color with the work of some forty artists who will be presented. The ticket office for these two exhibitions will open at the beginning of May with an adult price set at 10 euros. They will also be accessible free of charge to those under 26, the city and the metropolis wishing to “show their support for young people in this difficult period”.

Covid requires, visits to exhibitions will also be “organized around a specific protocol respecting the health recommendations in force”. In 2018, the first exhibition of the Pinault Collection welcomed more than 93,000 visitors to the Breton capital.
