The news was just that this week visitors could actually be at the Frankfurt Book Fair again, after it had to be moved to live streams in the pandemic year 2020. And then the confrontational question arises again, who should be there and who shouldn’t. The topic of debate at the last five book fairs is back: is it tolerable that the publishers of new and extreme right-wing publishers, authors and politicians have their stands there? Or should they be excluded so that they cannot use the book fair as a platform for their illiberal, nationalist and racist thoughts and supporters?
