Jais Weiher near Gilching: Dead diver recovered – equipment apparently self-made – Munich

A 58-year-old diver was recovered dead from a bathing pond in Gilching. According to initial findings from the water rescue service and police, the man, who lives in Germering, had obviously gone into the water alone and possibly with self-made diving equipment. On Wednesday afternoon, a passerby noticed a swimming buoy on the so-called Jais-Weiher that had not moved for a long time. The 19-year-old then drove to the buoy on a SUP and discovered a lifeless diver under the water surface.

The emergency services were alerted and brought the 58-year-old to shore and immediately began resuscitation measures. However, these were all unsuccessful. Since it was initially assumed that the diver was not alone on his dive, as is usually the case, the water rescue team searched the pond for a possible second diver.

Meanwhile, another witness came forward who had seen the 58-year-old assembling his equipment in his car before the dive – but without anyone accompanying him. Since it was therefore assumed that the man was actually alone, the rescue team stopped the search.

The circumstances under which the diver died are still unclear. The Fürstenfeldbruck criminal police have taken over the investigation into the incident. An autopsy will be performed on the diver’s body. According to initial findings, investigators do not believe that anyone else was at fault, the press office of the Upper Bavaria North Police Headquarters in Ingolstadt said.
