Would you like a little more? Jaguar’s answer to this question is: F-Pace SVR. The most powerful version of the British crossover competes against the German competition with 405 KW / 550 HP. So there is enough power, but what about suitability for everyday use?

The Jaguar F-Pace is not for fans of absolute and uncompromising understatement. Even if the exhaust system does not have the effect-seeking sound of a Mercedes-AMG model, it still gives the Jaguar F-Pace SVR an acoustic presence that distinguishes the 405 KW / 550 PS strong sports SUV from the other road users. Finely dosed, the Jaguar clearly signals: I could if I wanted to. That changes when you open the flaps of the exhaust system and the V8 engine is allowed to perform its sound symphony undisturbed. Nevertheless, the British gentleman never gets overly loud, but in the street canyons of the inner cities, mothers with self-knitted hats who drive their children to school in German premium SUVs visibly wince. The look with the large air intakes in the front apron, the nostrils in the hood and the four mighty trumpets at the rear make it clear that this is not a standard Jaguar, but rather a potent one.

The British are also stylish in the interior. The processing does not quite reach the noble level of the technology brother Range Rover Sport, but the chrome and the fine leather also play in a high league. The diamond-quilted sports seats have slightly thicker padding than the standard chairs, offer lateral support and are very comfortable. A day’s stage could also be completed in a relaxed manner in the F-Pace SVR, even if the chassis is logically sporty. It is pleasant that the rear seat can also be heated as standard, which is definitely beneficial for the social peace in the interior.

The operation of the Pivi Pro infotainment with the 11.4-inch touchscreen is not rocket science, you can find the most important functions immediately and the voice control is also improved, but does not yet reach the perfection of BMW or Mercedes. Sometimes you have to search for something to find your way around the menus. But once you’ve done that, you’ll find your way around quickly. The standard 360-degree camera helps when maneuvering the 4.76 meter long and 2.07 meter wide vehicle, since the rear view is logically not ideal. The turning circle of twelve meters sometimes requires some maneuvering work in narrow inner cities, but you get used to it quickly. Nevertheless, we would like the successor to the F-Pace to have rear-axle steering.

On the road, the blind spot assistant, which is also installed at the factory, helps to monitor the traffic behind you and also when opening the door. If you move the sporty SUV, you quickly notice that the intention to make a 2,133-kilogram heavy, long-legged vehicle dynamic entails compromises in terms of comfort when it comes to chassis tuning. The F-Pace SVR isn’t unyielding and brutally taut, but it does let passengers know when road conditions aren’t the best. This increases in the sporty driving modes. We were on the road with 21-inch tires and mixed tires (front: 265/45 R21, rear: 295/40 R21) and didn’t want any less flank height under our intervertebral discs. That’s why we advise against 22 inch wheels, which also cost an additional 1,100 euros. Horse fans will be pleased to know that the F-Pace SVR can tow a maximum of 2.4 tons.

Speaking of extras: With a base price of 105,438.11 euros, the most powerful F-Pace is really not a special offer. But the standard equipment is also quite decent for this price category: among other things, 14-way adjustable front seats, fine leather, a 400W Meridian sound system with 13 loudspeakers including a subwoofer (in our test car, the 650-watt version with 17 loudspeakers was installed for 1,489 euros). , 360 camera with parking sensors at the front and rear, an adaptive chassis and a whole arsenal of assistants: in addition to the aforementioned blind spot monitor, we were able to rely on the collision warning system, which also drops anchor when reversing to a Avoid contact with others and leave the lane departure warning system. Our test car had a few extras, such as USB sockets in the back, the aforementioned sound system and a cooled glove compartment. The special metallic paint costs 5,509 euros, bringing the total price to 118,926.11 euros.

Finally, there is the driving. With 423 kW / 550 hp, the fastest F-Pace has 18 kW / 25 hp less than the top model of the Range Rover Sport, but still by far enough to be more than fast on the road. Especially on winding country roads, the combination of a quickly responding compressor-equipped V8, an electronically activated differential on the rear axle and torque vectoring via brake intervention is a lot of fun, even if the weight of such a crossover cannot be completely concealed with the technical tricks. The F-Pace SVR may not achieve the agility of a Porsche Macan GTS or the uncompromising beefiness of a Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, but the Brit offers a balanced package. Only the steering could be more informative. The driving performance fits into the ranks of crossover top athletes: from a standing start it takes 4.0 seconds to reach 100 km/h and the imposing cat can reach speeds of up to 286 km/h. Jaguar specifies the average consumption as 11.4 liters per 100 kilometers, with us 14.1 l/100 km flowed through the eight combustion chambers. However, we were sometimes quicker on the motorway stages.
