“It’s insane”, savors Damien Fachan after the new feat of Bergerac

And one, and two, and three feats for the Bergerac Perigord Football Club! After Metz (L1) and Créteil (N), it was AS Saint-Etienne (L1) which fell by the wayside this Sunday against the National 2 club in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (1-0 ). In Périgueux, Erwan Lannuzel’s men won thanks to a goal from Romain Escarpit at the end of regulation time. The Bergeracois offer themselves the first quarter-final in their history.

This Monday morning, it was still the excitement around the BPFC with many media coming on site to meet the heroes of Périgord. Between two solicitations, Damien Fachan returns to 20 minutes on this new historic evening for an entire club.

Are you beginning to realize or not?

Frankly, not so much! The only thing that perhaps makes us aware of the thing are the many messages we receive. This is completely crazy. We’re really going to enjoy for a few more hours. This qualification is even stronger than the previous ones because we are advancing in the competition! We are in the quarter-finals, there are only eight teams left, it’s insane. It really takes the guts. It’s a real adrenaline rush.

Do you dream of a very big one in the next round?

Yes and no. When you play Paris for example, it’s before and after, but during, you don’t see the ball much (laughs). But already beating two Ligue 1 teams is incredible. It happens once in a career and again for many, it never. Our only wish is to receive. For that, there is only one team to avoid, it’s Versailles who plays at the same level as us. Afterwards, we are competitors so basically we hope above all to pass the next round. And even if we play Paris, we will say that it is possible (smiles).

If you receive, could you play in Bordeaux (Chaban-Delmas or Matmut Atlantique)?

Yes, I think we will surely have to because there is VAR from the quarter-finals. But to be honest with you, I think that at the club we all want to play Gaston-Simounet in Bergerac. It’s our home, right next to our homes. But hey if we have to play in Bordeaux, no problem we will go with the same desire. Frankly, it’s only a bonus what we live. We take advantage of the present moment and we look forward to the draw.
