It’s at these profitable companies that the employees are the angriest – business

Working in the supermarket has never been easy – and it hasn’t gotten any easier in recent years. Long hours in the neon light, air conditioning often too cold, the constant beeping of the cash register is annoying. And then the anger of customers in the face of rising food prices and Corona rules that are either observed or not – and for which they are certainly not responsible: the cashiers.

In this respect, it is not surprising that one company leads the top ten: Walmart, the large retail group from the USA with more than 10,000 stores worldwide. Walmart is number one on the list of employers that make very high profits but still have the most dissatisfied employees – worldwide. San Francisco-based jobs platform Lensa gave the world’s 100 highest-earning companies an employee satisfaction rating by correlating multiple data from Glassdoor’s job rating platform, including salaries, overall job satisfaction and the response to the question of whether one would recommend one’s job to friends would.

Walmart only got 0.41 out of ten possible points – although the company claims on its own website that “2.3 million proud Walmart colleagues work for it around the world”. The company advertises the internal opportunities for advancement, after all, even CEO Doug McMillon started as a simple worker in the group, he unloaded Walmart trucks as a young man. Today he earns more than $25 million a year. According to the Lensa analysis, Walmart employees only get an average annual salary of $40,439, by far the lowest value in the company – and that includes managers and other office workers, not just the cashiers and warehouse workers, who often only earn minimum wage from $14 an hour.

Three American companies are among the ten richest companies with the angriest employees, along with Walmart, the UPS parcel service and the cable network operator Charter Communications. Six of the companies are based in China, all of them financial institutions like the Bank of Communications and the Bank of China or shipping companies like Cosco or Evergrande. Although their average salaries aren’t that bad, many employees wouldn’t recommend their jobs to friends.

Job satisfaction is said to have increased in Germany

One European company made the list no one likes to be on: Dior. The French group, which includes perfume and leather goods divisions, made a profit of 21 billion euros on sales of 79 billion euros last year. According to the Ensa evaluation, the employees earn an average of 62,791 dollars a year. Despite this, Dior only managed to score 1.26 out of ten possible points for employee satisfaction.

A German employer is not on the negative list, although German companies BMW, Mercedes-Benz, VW, Hapag-Lloyd and Allianz can also be found among the 100 companies surveyed with the highest global profits in 2021. According to the most recent survey by the personnel service provider Avantgarde Experts, job satisfaction has increased in Germany. 79 percent of the more than 1,000 employees surveyed this year stated that they were fairly or very satisfied with their job. Last year it was only 68 percent. At 62 percent, as in previous years, salary is by far the most frequently mentioned point with a positive influence on job satisfaction.
