“It’s a stripping in front of the public to sing your own composition”, explains Marghe, winner of the 2021 edition.

Marghe, winner of The Voice 2021, and her coach Florent Pagny – TF1

  • Marghe won the tenth edition of The Voice Saturday evening on TF1.
  • At 22, the young singer already has a group, and composes her own songs.
  • For 20 minutes, she looks back on her career in the show and her projects.

And three for Florent Pagny. The emblematic coach of The Voice, who was making his comeback in the red chair, again brought his talent to the final victory. Marghe, 22, won in a very intense final, especially against Jim Bauer, at the very end of the show.

The young woman was revealed during the weeks of the competition. At first rather shy, behind her glasses, Marghe imposed her talents as an interpreter in different registers, until presenting, to win, a song of her composition in front of more than 5 million viewers. The opportunity to demonstrate that the talents of The Voice sometimes also have a voice of their own.

On Saturday night, when you announce your victory, you look surprised but not totally upset either. Where does this Zen attitude come from?

Throughout the adventure I kept the same state of mind. I told myself every step of the way that it could be the last and that I should take advantage of it. So there you have it, I took advantage of every second, so I’m happy and zen.

You remained fairly modest about your family and friendly entourage during this adventure but you still had a very warm thank you note for them when receiving the trophy.

Absolutely. It’s great to be so supported by your loved ones. They have always supported me, even from afar. But it does not date from The Voice. Even before that, my friends and family understood that I wanted to make music and have helped me since I was little. So it makes me proud to make them happy today and bring the cup home.

Where is the house? Still Poitiers?

Yes, I still live in Poitiers. I have no initial plan.

Were you able to chat with Abi, winner of The Voice 2020, and how to handle the sequel?

Yes, we got to chat a little bit with him, and other alumni from The Voice. But everything went very quickly on Saturday. It took a lot of work, then the evening was eventful. But we also exchange a lot by messages. His main advice, I already knew him, is to make the most of it.

Former winners of The Voice sometimes have a hard time going from a song contest, with covers, to an album of original songs. How do you see it? What kind of music do you want to do next?

I don’t really ask myself this question because I was able to do exactly what I wanted in The Voice. What I sang is 100% like me, I was myself from start to finish.

Of course, but apart from your last song, which was your own composition, we haven’t heard your songs.

I was very happy, and very stressed too it must be said, to sing this song. It is a stripping in front of the public to sing your own composition. Of course, I compose, so I was proud to be able to present a song of my own, but it’s still a singing and performing competition. It is normal that we are judged by our voice and our performance. The public praised it for me. I have plenty of time to introduce him to the rest.

How would you define this “rest”, this musical universe you are talking about?

I prefer to say that I have musical universes that I combine in music to make something original out of them. I am Malagasy and Italian mixed race, I live in France, I want to bet on my different musical cultures. It can be felt in the melodies, the rhythms, the lyrics. I can sing in English, French, Malagasy …

In Italian ?

Not a lot, no. I write less in Italian. I don’t know why, I’m a little less comfortable at the moment.

You say that you were yourselves from start to finish, but your coach Florent Pagny was flattered to have seen “a diva” hatch in recent weeks.

The Voice made me grow up but I stayed in my musical universe. I gained confidence and maturity, faster than if I hadn’t done the show, that’s for sure. I think all of this will have a beneficial influence on my career.

It’s probably a little early to find out but do you have any plans for the future, after this victory?

I had plans before The Voice, a group, and I will continue all this. But you will be notified in due course, do not worry. I am calm, I am patient. Everything was a little upset on Saturday night with this victory, but that’s not why I’m going to change all my plans. I used to make music The Voice and I will continue.

The Voice have been a kind of parenthesis in your life as a musician?

A parenthesis, no, I don’t think so, because everything will probably be different now. The Voice was a personal adventure, a childhood dream come true. My music, my life as a musician and my projects are not limited to The Voice.

Hannah Reid, frontman of London Grammar, with whom you sang in duet, said her pleasure to finally find the scene. You, thanks to The Voice, you haven’t really stopped singing in the last few months.

All the musicians experienced a sort of break imposed by the health situation. Me, I took this break from my participation in The Voice, of course, but not only. With my duo, we continued to work, to rehearse, to improve our compositions, to prepare ourselves for the concerts which come in the weeks to come. We can’t wait to come back on stage and find the audience. We already have concert dates, if the health situation allows it.

Do you plan to work with other candidates for this edition?

Oh yes ! With all ! Or maybe with my coach, you never know …

All? Really ?

That’s the beauty of this season, the bond that was born between us. We were not in competition with each other, but with each other.
