Italy: one dead and four injured, including footballer Pablo Mari, in a knife attack

One person was killed and four others injured, including Spanish Arsenal footballer Pablo Mari, in a stabbing attack on Thursday in a shopping center near Milan, media reports refer to the isolated act of an unbalanced man.

A 46-year-old Italian, apparently suffering from psychiatric disorders, was arrested moments after the attack, which occurred in Assago, on the outskirts of Milan, said the Italian news agency Ansa.

According to the same source, the person killed was an employee of the Carrefour hypermarket, located inside the shopping center where the attack took place. According to Ansa, four people were seriously injured in the attack.

Treated for depression

According to the first elements of the investigation, the assailant, who was undergoing treatment for depression, grabbed a knife on the shelf before attacking several people nearby. Among the injured is the Spanish footballer Pablo Marì, central defender on loan to Monza (Serie A) by Arsenal. Hospitalized, he was conscious and able to speak, said a source close to the club.

“Dear Pablo, we are all close to you and your family, we love you, keep fighting as you know how to do, you are a warrior and you will heal quickly,” wrote the managing director of Monza, Adriano Galliani, in a tweet posted by the club.
