The toll is growing. The Israeli army announced, Monday, June 3, the death of four Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, including Nadav Popplewell, whose death was announced earlier by Kibbutz Nirim. The army has “informed the families of Chaïm Peri, Yoram Metzger, Amiram Cooper and Nadav Popplewell” of the death of these four kidnapped hostages, indicates an army press release, specifying that their bodies were still in the hands of the Palestinian Islamist movement.

“We believe that the four (hostages) were killed while they were together in an area of (the town of) Khan Yunis during our operation there against Hamas”said Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, during a press briefing.

Three of these hostages, Amiram Cooper, 84, Yoram Metzger, 80, and Chaïm Peri, 80, were from Kibbutz Nir Oz, where they were kidnapped on October 7. Nadav Popplewell, an Israeli-British citizen, was kidnapped in Kibbutz Nirim.

“The immense pain that accompanies this painful news should shake every citizen of the State of Israel and lead all leaders to deep introspection”writes the Hostage Families Forum, in a press release. “They should have returned alive to their country and to their families”continues the Forum, as pressure intensifies on Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to reach an agreement for the release of hostages.
