Israel confirms ceasefire

For three days Palestinian terrorists have fired rockets from Gaza towards Israel, now both sides have agreed to a ceasefire.

Israeli Prime Minister Jair Lapid’s official Twitter account said: “We can confirm that a ceasefire will come into effect today at 11:30 p.m. (10:30 p.m. German time).”

However, the terrorists of “Islamic Jihad” threatened retaliation in the event of “Israeli aggression”. Israel stressed that it would respond harshly to violations.

In the tweet, Lapid expressly thanks Egypt for its peace efforts. The country had sent a high-ranking delegation to the Gaza Strip to negotiate details of the ceasefire. According to information from the German Press Agency, the agreement should also include the release of two Palestinian prisoners in Israel.

Just a few hours earlier, sirens could be heard in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening. Due to the rocket alarm, civilians rushed into shelters, witnesses later told of dull explosions. Most recently, there had been rocket attacks on the 450,000-inhabitant metropolis on the Mediterranean last year.

In all, the Palestinian terrorists have fired almost 1,000 rockets since Friday. Israel had previously eliminated top terrorist Tayseer al-Jabari in an air strike. (ia)
