1. FC Union Berlin and RB Leipzig fought a mocking duel on Twitter about the posse of Isco’s failed transfer. A few hours after the former Real Madrid star’s commitment to Union was broken, Leipzig commented on the line-up for the Berlin cup game against VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday evening with the question “Isco?”. The Berliners answered a few minutes later with the counter-question “Tradition?”

Union vs. Leipzig: Other clubs turn on the Zoff

Union fans have always been critical of the Leipzigers, founded in 2009, as part of the global RB construct and complain, among other things, of the lack of co-determination by a large number of members. Other clubs also entered into dialogue. FSV Mainz 05 tweeted three popcorn emojis. Wolfsburg’s Spanish account responded with a GIF, a short video showing a surprised reaction. Isco had already completed the medical check at the Bundesliga soccer team Union, but the ideas about the contract then diverged between those responsible on both sides.

Union coach expresses himself

Union coach Urs Fischer also comments on the failed transfer of former Real Madrid star Isco and has a special thought. He asked himself: “Do you have to play that day if it’s the last day of the transfer window?” The 56-year-old Swiss conceded, despite the Iron Man’s entry into the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup with the 2-1 home win against VfL Wolfsburg on Tuesday evening, that events on the day of the match were not as they should be: “It was ideal the preparation for such an important game really isn’t.”

Khedira: “Would have been a great story”

According to Rani Khedira, who captained the Union side against VfL, the players only found out Isco was due to arrive on matchday morning. In the afternoon they found out that the commitment of the five-time Champions League winner to the second-placed team in the Bundesliga would not come about after all. “It would have been a great story, but we still have a great team,” said Khedira and also reported that his brother Sami, a former Real professional, had also been in contact with Isco. It was of no use.

Isco transfer fails on the home stretch

Although Isco had already completed the medical check, the ideas about the contract then diverged between those responsible on both sides. Only a few hours later, Fischer’s team had to line up. “In the end we didn’t want to give ourselves an alibi and focus on the game,” said the Union coach. “The way the team performed, they took it well.”
