Investigators at US President Biden’s beach house

Now the investigators have moved into other rooms of Joe Biden, this time by the sea. On Wednesday, FBI officials inspected his beach house in Rehoboth, Delaware. The arrival of dark vehicles first caught the attention of television stations. Then Biden’s personal attorney Bob Bauer confirmed the action. “The Justice Department is conducting the planned search with the full support and cooperation of the President,” Bauer said. In view of standard procedures, safety and integrity, an attempt was made to “perform this work without prior public notice,” which was agreed.

Now it has become public quite quickly, but according to Bauer, the investigators have not found any secret documents. As with the search of Biden’s home in January, some materials and handwritten notes were taken that may be related to Biden’s time as vice president (2009 to 2017). At Biden’s property in Wilmington, also in the state of Delaware north of Washington, DC, the investigators had recently been busy for 13 hours and came across several classified documents.

What is certain is that such files should not be left in the private places of former high-ranking politicians. Word had recently got around that police officers had found what they were looking for in Biden’s previous offices and current properties, including in a garage next to his vintage Corvette Stingray.

Trump refused to release the files at the time, Biden is transparent

Merrick Garland, US Attorney General in the Democrats’ cabinet, also appointed a special counsel in the Biden case, as he did in Donald Trump. The difference: Trump’s Mar-a-Lago palace on Florida’s Palm Beach shores was the subject of a sensational raid last summer because he refused to voluntarily release the boxes of classified material from his Oval Office era. In the case of Biden, the first investigation took place in November, before the midterm elections, which he was quite happy about. It wasn’t made public until later, in January.

In the meantime, the American President and his advisors are trying to show that they are dealing with the sensitive issue transparently and are opening the doors to the judiciary. Especially since Justice Minister Garland is part of Biden’s government. Nevertheless, there was plenty of criticism of the White House’s handling of the affair, which has nothing to do with the fact that a new chief of staff is about to take office there, Jeff Zients instead of Ron Klain as before.

Papers were also discovered on Trump’s former deputy Mike Pence that belong in the national archives after the end of his term of office and will go there again, as well as those of Trump and Biden. The Republican Pence also relied on voluntariness. All three of those affected are safe or probable candidates for the 2024 presidential election. Trump announced his candidacy in the fall, Pence is considered a possible challenger in the Republican primaries, and Biden is likely to explain himself in the coming weeks.

It remains to be seen to what extent the obvious sloppiness in moving will affect his image. So far, his poll numbers have not deteriorated, they had improved in the course of the midterms, but Biden is still not overly popular with some Americans. The day-to-day life of the President continued as normal while the document story continued. In the afternoon Biden wanted to receive Republican Kevin McCarthy and discuss the debt limit. Today’s search is “another step in a thorough and timely Justice Department process that we continue to fully support and encourage,” Biden’s attorney, Bauer, said. “We will have more information after completing today’s search.”
