The protection of the constitution Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is apparently heading for its next affair. The Attorney General is investigating an employee of the authority for “betrayal of secrets”. Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) confirmed a corresponding report by the news magazine “Der Spiegel”.
An employee of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania constitutional protection agency is suspected of having given a suspected undercover agent the address of a man who should be the target of an assassination attempt. The alleged undercover agent is said to be the state terrorist Walid D., who was arrested at the end of last year and has been in custody since then, according to research by the news magazine “Der Spiegel” and the MDR. He is accused of planning an assassination attempt against a Chechen activist critical of the regime in southern Germany.

Interior Minister Renz points to the presumption of innocence
Interior Minister Renz confirmed the investigations of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office against the secret service employee and pointed out the presumption of innocence. Nevertheless, the employee was given a leave of absence as a precaution. Renz assured the Attorney General full cooperation – all the required documents had been handed over to the investigators. The news magazine Der Spiegel had reported that at the end of June the offices and private rooms of the suspected secret service agent had been searched. Renz wants to inform the parliamentary control commission about the case shortly.
Chechen assassins targeted at activists
According to research by “Der Spiegel” and MDR, the order for the murder of the Chechen activist Mochmad Abdurachmanow is said to come from the power center of the authoritarian Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov himself. Accordingly, two men from Chechnya were charged with the murder. Tamirlan A., one of the men, surrendered to the German authorities and asserted that he had only pretended to have accepted the offer of a sum of money for the murder. The federal prosecutor’s office is investigating the second suspect, undercover agent Walid D., for state terrorism. According to the “Spiegel”, a Makarov pistol was found on him, which the investigators believe should be used for the planned murder of Abdurachmanov.
