Xiaomi has officially introduced its latest flagship models, the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro, which are the first smartphones to feature the groundbreaking Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, launched just a week ago.
The Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro will initially be available in China, with plans to launch in Europe in the first quarter of 2024. These new devices promise a significant increase in performance thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, alongside a set of enhanced specifications compared to the previous generation.
Fabricated using a 3-nanometer process, the latest processor features the Oryon CPU, delivering outstanding performance metrics. Qualcomm claims that this innovative architecture boasts a 45% performance enhancement and a 44% improvement in energy efficiency compared to its predecessor. The accompanying Adreno GPU also sees impressive upgrades, achieving 40% gains in performance and energy efficiency.
Specifications of the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro
The Xiaomi 15 Pro is particularly noteworthy with its 6.73-inch curved OLED display, featuring a stunning 2K resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels. Utilizing TCL CSOT’s advanced M9 technology, it offers phenomenal brightness levels of 3200 nits while reducing power consumption by 24%. The adaptive refresh rate can adjust from 1 to 120 Hz, courtesy of LTPO technology.
On the photography front, the 15 Pro is equipped with a triple-camera array co-engineered with Leica. It includes a 50 MP main sensor based on Sony’s LYT-900 with an f/1.44 aperture, a 50 MP periscopic telephoto lens (equivalent to 120mm), and a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens that offers a 115-degree field of view.
Battery life is another highlight, with the Pro model housing a robust 6100 mAh battery while the standard version comes with a 5400 mAh battery. These developments represent substantial enhancements from the previous models. Both variants support 90 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging. Additionally, the cooling system has received upgrades, featuring a 14% larger heat dissipation surface area in the Pro version.
The standard Xiaomi 15 impresses with its 6.36-inch flat OLED screen, featuring ultra-slim 1.38 mm bezels, making it the thinnest edge smartphone available. It shares the same powerful processor as the Pro model and also incorporates a Leica-certified 50 MP triple camera setup, although with slightly varied sensor specifications.
Both smartphones offer the choice of 12 or 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM with UFS 4.0 storage options of up to 1 TB. They operate on HyperOS 2.0, Xiaomi’s latest Android-based interface, and come with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Pricing for the Xiaomi 15 Series
Pricing details reveal that the Xiaomi 15 Pro starts at 5299 yuan (approximately 685 euros) for the 12/256 GB model, while the Xiaomi 15 is available from 4499 yuan (around 582 euros). Both models will be sold in various colors, including a unique “Liquid Silver” edition that showcases an eye-catching ripple effect under light.
The launch is set for October 31 in China, with further information on international availability to be released later. It’s anticipated that consumers might have to wait until MWC in February 2025 for these devices to arrive in Europe. With a slight price increase already noted in China, a similar rise can be expected in France. With these new flagship devices, Xiaomi is clearly signaling its ambitions for 2024, while also hinting at the anticipated launch of the Xiaomi 15 Ultra in early 2025.
