Interview with Wolfgang Ambros before the shows on the Danube Island and at Tollwood – Munich

A home visit to the Austro-pop legend in Waidring. How important the solidarity of the elders is to Wolfgang Ambros, what he thinks of Andreas Gabalier and why he has such a hard time with new songs.

In March, Wolfgang Ambros gave his home country a real fright: instead of playing his 72nd birthday concert in the Vienna Stadthalle, he had to go to hospital. And once again, everyone realized who was at stake: the forefather of Austropop, creator of secret national anthems such as “Da Hofa”, “Zentralfriedhof” and “Schifoan”. And then? Now he’s back on the biggest stage in the country: the Donauinselfest in Vienna. And a week later he’s playing at the Tollwood Festival in Munich. A house visit to Waidring in the Kitzbühel Alps, where Ambros lives with his wife Uta Schäfauer, his dog Devil and several songbirds.
