Interview with photographer Frédéric Brenner: This in-between – culture

For 40 years, Frédéric Brenner has been photographing Jewish life all over the world, in Israel of course, but also in India, China, Yemen and the former Soviet Union. His most recent project was created in Berlin, and it will be shown in Berlin. The exhibition “Zerheilt” – based on a phrase by Paul Celan – can be seen in the Jewish Museum from Friday, the book of the same name was recently published (Hatje Cantz Verlag, 59 euros). The show had been planned for a long time, and the museum has been purchasing all of Frédéric Brenner’s new works since 2018. What nobody knew at the time: that Brenner’s wife Hetty Berg would become director in 2020. In the garden of the museum, the photographer talks about staging of the Jewish and why Israelis today have less remorse when they go to Germany.
