Cyberattacks have multiplied in recent weeks against public establishments and French local authorities. A new region fell victim on Friday. The Normandy Regional Council confirmed evening that it had been “victim of a cyberattack” overnight from Thursday to Friday. “The Digital Department of the community is working with a company specializing in cyberattack in order to characterize and analyze the level of this attack as well as its consequences”, indicates the institution in a press release. She also “contacted the State services, the Anssi (National Agency for the Security of Computer Services) and the police services in order to file a complaint”, she specifies.
“Internet access is currently suspended on the regional administrative sites of Caen and Rouen, in high schools, as well as in some of the community’s satellites”, according to the press release. “The Region’s website has been restored to a new address: https://laregionnormandie.fr in order to communicate with the Normans”, adds the institution.
Cyberattacks have multiplied in recent weeks against public establishments and French local authorities, the most recent having targeted the Versailles hospital center last weekend, victim according to a source close to the Lockbit ransomware investigation. In August, the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital had already suffered such an attack, followed by a ransom demand of ten million dollars. At the end of November, it was the Guadeloupe region which had lodged a complaint after a “large-scale cyberattack”. The city of Caen at the end of September, the department of Seine-Maritime in October and that of Seine-et-Marne in November are also among the victims.
