Julian Ryerson is the focus of Brighton & Hove Albion and clubs from Italy. His contract with Union Berlin expires at the end of the season, but there is an option to extend it.

Julian Ryerson is having a strong season with Union Berlin. Ryerson’s performances appear to have sparked interest in England and Italy. The Norwegian’s contract expires at the end of the season, but Union has a back door.

Four and a half years ago, Union Berlin paid a whopping 150,000 euros to sign Julian Ryerson from Norway’s Viking FK. Today the right-back is worth a multiple of that. The next step for Ryerson could now be in the summer.

Tricky contract situation: Brighton and other clubs are watching Ryerson

Like David Ornstein of The Athletic reports, Brighton & Hove Albion is monitoring the Norwegian’s situation. Italy should also be interested; Ornstein did not name specific clubs.

Ryerson’s contract in Berlin only runs until the end of the season. Union has the option of another season, but the extension would activate an exit clause of five million euros. The interested clubs are therefore hoping for a free transfer from Ryerson in the summer; should Union take the option, the Norwegian would still be a bargain thanks to the opt-out clause.
