Intel Won’t Limit Crypto Mining on New Graphics Card Alchemistmin

Intel has revealed that Intel’s upcoming Arc graphics cards have no software or hardware limits for mining. Cryptocurrency

Roger Chandler said in a panel discussion with Gadgets360, Intel VP and GM of Client Graphics Products and Solutions that the Arc line of graphics cards, codenamed “Alchemist,” will not include “software locks and other things.” in that manner.”

Chandler said, “We didn’t design a product specifically targeting miners at this point, “as much as we do to avoid or block it. It’s a product that will be on the market and people will be able to buy it.” “We are designing the Intel Arc and Alchemist portfolio with a focus on gamers and creators first.”

GPU and Crypto Mining

Intel is the only GPU maker battling the question of how to balance its competitive customer base. The traditional market for graphics cards—PC gamers—has been hit by the arrival of crypto miners who use GPUs to mine cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum (Bitcoin miners have changed have been using dedicated ASIC hardware for mining a long time ago.)

Rival GPU maker Nvidia has attempted to limit crypto mining using its hardware. It introduces a hash rate limiter that controls the ability of the card to be used for mining. In May 2021, Nvidia announced that its latest GeForce graphics cards would be “unwanted by miners,” reiterating that “GeForce is good for gaming,” but did not want to alienate the emerging market of crypto miners.

Nvidia has launched its Crypto mining product, specifically CMP. After Q1, it will see the company increase its revenue estimate for CMP from an expected $50 million to $150 million. The company’s forecast proved quite optimistic. Too good. Q2 response from CMP is down $134 million from estimates.

Meanwhile, AMD has taken the same approach as Intel, stating that it won’t block Ethereum mining on its GPUs, arguing that crypto mining is a relatively small part of the business.

This may be a moot point in the long run. By turning Ethereum from a mining consensus mechanism to Proof of stake with the Ethereum 2.0 upgrade, GPU mining could be a thing of the past.
