Indonesia Aims to Launch a “National Crypto Exchange” by June

Indonesian Ministry of Trade It aims to launch a national crypto exchange by June this year, six months behind its original goal of December 2022.

Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan revealed the new goals on Feb. 2 at the launch of Crypto Literacy Month in Jakarta, noting that the government is reviewing which companies meet the criteria to be part of the exchange.

There are currently 5 active crypto exchanges registered with the country’s regulators. And according to Zulkifli, while these exchanges facilitate all trades within the country, Instead, the ministry’s exchange will act as a clearing house and custodian in the local crypto market.

The clearing house is primarily an intermediary between buyers and sellers. To ensure that transactions go smoothly. At the same time, his role as a custodian would be to manage the movement of assets between the parties.

The minister also urged people to wait patiently for the national crypto exchange, saying, “Don’t rush it because if it launches when it’s not ready, things will get messy. The government doesn’t want this to affect the masses. Because people don’t know much about crypto trading.”

On December 5, Bank of Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo announced that Central bank digital currency planned to launch It will be the only legal digital currency in the country.
