Indications of raccoon dogs as carriers of Corona in Wuhan – knowledge

A group of scientists has re-examined old traces of genetic material from the Chinese city of Wuhan. The gene data indicate that Sars-CoV-2 could have switched from animals to humans.

They were there for a short time, the telltale gene sequences, and now they have been deleted again. According to the French evolutionary biologist Florence Débarre, genetic data from samples taken at the beginning of 2020 at the Huanan market in the Chinese city of Wuhan has recently appeared in the GISAID database, in which genetic data of viruses is stored. Most experts consider the market to be the starting point of the corona pandemic a good three years ago. Some of the gene sequences in the database may have come from the genome of viruses that are extremely closely related to the first Sars-CoV-2 virus found in humans. In addition, the corresponding sample also contained genetic material from animals that could be considered intermediate hosts for the pathogen. According to American media, Débarre presented this find on Tuesday together with colleagues during a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Group for the Origins of Novel Pathogens (SAGO), an expert group of the World Health Organization (WHO).
