In Copenhagen, Denmark, the investigation into a suspected bicycle theft led to a completely different discovery. By tracking the GPS of the missing bike, investigators found several works of art that had been stolen during a gallery burglary. “It was much more than a stolen bicycle that was found at the address in question,” police said in a statement.
During the search carried out at an address located in the south of Copenhagen, the police came across “eleven scooters and electric bicycles, presumed stolen” as well as “a number of works of art stolen from a gallery in the city March 31.”
A beautiful treasure hunt
On site, investigators arrested two men aged 32 and 40, suspected of aggravated theft. Police are currently investigating how they came to be in possession of 14 works of art. During the burglary of the ram car gallery, thieves stole between 20 and 30 works by the artist Kristian von Hornsleth.
A hotspot for cycling, the Danish capital regularly records bicycle thefts. In 2023, more than 17,000 bicycles were stolen according to police statistics. According to a town hall investigation, this is also the crime that worries Copenhageners the most. Some cyclists equip their vehicles with GPS to be able to locate them even after a theft. A boon for the police who will therefore have had a double blow.
