In Paris, requests for energy renovation are exploding

It’s a real boom, and a growing interest. The number of people registered on the CoachCopro platform, the Paris City Hall’s energy renovation support platform, has skyrocketed in recent months, being multiplied by seven on average over the last two months compared to the same months last year. For example, there were 480 registered in October, ten times more than last year.

“We feel that there is a new dynamic around energy renovation”, welcomes Dan Lert, deputy mayor of Paris in charge of ecological transition, who points to full rooms during public meetings. According to information from the town hall, there were for example 360 ​​people during the last meeting in the 20th, or 250 in the 12th. Salvo, a resident of the 19th, attended a public meeting on the subject at the borough hall on December 7, and testifies to a “full” room, with an audience asking many questions, the exchanges continuing well after the indicated time.

“It’s a bit like the alignment of the planets”

There are many reasons for this increased interest. Rising energy prices, increased support from the City of Paris, tax credits and the recent heat waves. “It’s a bit like the alignment of the planets,” explains Frédéric Delhommeau, director of the Paris Climate Agency.

A newsletter from the City of Paris, sent to thousands of subscribers, also had its small effect, according to the Paris Climate Agency. In this missive dated November 7, the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, announced that she had decided to exempt 100% from the payment of property tax for owners who “will have invested in the thermal renovation of their apartment between 2020 and 2026”, at the same time that it announced that this tax would increase by 50%.

Financial and regulatory incentives

This increase in registrations also takes place in a more favorable legislative and regulatory context. For the past two years, the MaPrimeRénov’ system, piloted by the National Housing Agency (Anah), has benefited more than 1.25 million households (not without malfunctions). In 2021, the National Assembly also voted to ban the rental of “thermal colanders” (class F), scheduled for 2028, housing with a slightly more favorable rating being spared only a little more. long time. Given the length of the work and the upstream discussions, this is what prompted Corinne, co-owner of a 24-unit building located in the 18th arrondissement and listed on CoachCopro, to decide: “It became important that we can enhance our property”

The health crisis, and the fact of spending more time at home during confinement, also had an impact, underlines Frédéric Delhommeau, who noted “already in 2021 an increase in activity compared to 2020”. “This period was for many an opportunity to take an interest in their home. We did not have a drop in activity during the Covid, quite the contrary. We feel that there is more desire to do! »

For other inhabitants, this inscription is the result of several years of reflection, the last heat waves or government measures being only additional arguments that come to crown it all. Like Sarah, registered last spring, who with other neighbors in buildings “is dying of heat in the summer and the winter is very cold”, in a condominium from the 1960s “not at all isolated”. “I heard about CoachCopro when we wanted to green the roofs. I went to a meeting in the 18th, I realized that it was lucky to have this device, with an adviser who makes site visits. »

A suitcase full of advice

Because concretely, how does it work? “You are already involved in the life of your building, you want to move forward but you don’t know how to do it, you register on CoachCopro, you are asked for your contact details. Someone from the Paris Climate Agency will contact you, and this person will be your coach for as long as it takes, ”explains Frédéric Delhommeau.

20 minutes was able to attend a conversation between a counselor of the device and Odile, president of a union council in the 18th. Odile describes to the councilor the leaking pipes and the floors that have collapsed in her building. “We avoid insulating a building that is not in good condition from the point of view of humidity and leaks”, replies the adviser, who adds later: “When we put insulation on, we no longer see the wall and therefore it will take longer to realize the structural problems. Odile will leave with a suitcase full of advice, and above all a procedure to follow to inform or even convince her co-owners.

45% gas savings

For those who have gone through the process, which often takes several years, the result is appreciated. “It’s night and day from a comfort point of view”, welcomes Gérard, president of a union council in the 15th arrondissement. “I do not heat and I am at 22 degrees in my apartment,” enthuses this resident.

The work lasted for almost two years, from September 2020 to the summer of 2022, but the operation enabled him to save 45% on his gas consumption. “I went from 350 euros for heating to 250 euros,” he explains. And above all, in 2024, during the renewal of his gas contract, if this source of energy continues to increase in this way, Gérard will save, he is sure, even greater sums.
