The training turned into a disaster. A volunteer firefighter has been missing since 3 p.m. this Tuesday afternoon after falling into the ocean, near Pornic, reports the departmental fire and rescue service (Sdis) of Loire-Atlantique.

The experienced man was participating in an exercise on the water with a team of water rescuers near the campsite de la Madrague, when a strong wave threw him out of the boat into a rocky fault.

The search, made complicated by rough seas, came to nothing and continues at least until nightfall. About sixty firefighters were mobilized in recent hours. But the chances of a happy outcome now appear slim.

The victim is one of the volunteer firefighters from the Saint-Brévin rescue center (Loire-Atlantique).
