2024 legislative electionscase

Far behind in the first round by the NFP and closely followed by the RN in a three-way race, the former Minister of Health was starting from too far behind to keep his seat in the first constituency of Isère.

His reputation as a former Minister of Health and his local roots were not enough to ensure his victory. Former Minister of Health Olivier Véran, outgoing MP for the first constituency of Isère, was unable to save the seat he had held since 2017. With 40.24% of the vote in the second round, he was beaten in the nick of time by his rival from the New Popular Front, Hugo Prévost (42.35%), a 24-year-old economics student, trade unionist and community activist for around ten years. In this three-way race, in which he was in an unfavourable position, he nevertheless exceeded the score of LR-RN candidate Alexandre Lacroix (17.41%).

In the first round on June 30, The former government spokesman, who had campaigned without a label and without any mention of the outgoing majority Ensemble, had had to face a first setback: with 33.62% of the vote, he came in more than 6 points behind the candidate of the New Popular Front. Alexandre Lacroix, candidate on behalf of the alliance of the contested president of LR Eric Ciotti with the RN, had managed to qualify for the second round with a score of 18.34%. “The second round of all dangers for Véran”, warned the regional daily The Dauphiné liberated the day after the election. A danger that has now turned into defeat.

During the last legislative elections, in 2022, Olivier Véran, former neurologist today converted to aesthetic medicinehad nevertheless been elected without difficulty a second time as a deputy in his native Isère with 55.53% of the votes in the second round, against the LFI candidate of Nupes Salomé Robin (44.47%). In 2017, the former minister had also imposed himself without surprise against his rival from the right with more than 68% of the votes in the second round. Since his departure from the government in January, after the ministerial reshuffle of which he had been the victim, he had once again regained his place as deputy of the first constituency of Isère.
