In flood, the Roya carries temporary installations

Nothing to do with the waves of two and a half years ago. But the images captured this weekend in the Roya had enough to revive bad memories. In slight flood following recent bad weather and melting snow, the river which meanders in the Alpes-Maritimes before flowing into Italy has taken with it temporary installations put in place after the deadly passage of storm Alex. In October 2020.

Only access roads intended exclusively for construction machinery, installed as close as possible to the watercourse, were damaged, motorist traffic was not affected. “Tende’s temporary bus passages are expensive,” described a resident on Facebook, with several supporting videos.

“Designed to be fusible in case of flooding”

Contacted by Nice morning, the county council confirms that one of the fords located at the entrance to this village, that of the 14 arches, “designed to be fuse in the event of flooding”, was “a little impacted”. But everything can be put back in order for the continuation of the reconstruction sites in this particularly affected valley.

In January, the boss of the Alpes-Maritimes Charles-Ange Ginésy announced the end of “all major infrastructure works” for this year. He also explained that “out of a total of 304 million euros planned by the department, more than 220 [avaient] already been committed” for all of the affected areas.

In the Tinée and Vésubie valleys, certain other projects at the expense of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis have been slowed down. Justice has opened an investigation into suspicions of “embezzlement of public funds”.
