While hydrogen is arousing the interest of many communities, three of them have announced that they have decided to join forces in this area. The town halls of Angers (DVD), Le Mans and Dijon (PS) indeed plan to run their garbage dumpsters with hydrogen and have just placed a group order in this direction.
In total, 29 trucks were purchased: 20 for Dijon metropolis, 6 for Le Mans and 3 for Angers. “Today, it is for heavy vehicles that this technology is the most interesting,” explains Dijon Métropole. Hydrogen is indeed a vector which concentrates a lot of energy, thus offering power and autonomy. “
Lower costs
The other benefit of a grouping of orders, presented as “a first in France”, is also to lower costs, knowing that a garbage truck of this type costs “between 550,000 and 850,000 euros”.
“Hydrogen engines have the advantage of not emitting greenhouse gases, but also of promoting the development of local energy sectors,” adds Angers Métropole. The production of hydrogen is based on two techniques accessible to all territories: the electrolysis of water, from wind or solar electricity or from energy recovery from waste and gasification of biomass. , from wood or crops such as hemp. “
