In 2021, the wolf attacked less, but caused more victims

The wolf claimed more victims in the Var in 2021 than in 2020, but fewer attacks were recorded, according to the count by the French Office for Biodiversity reported by Var Morning.

In detail, the Canis lupus attacked 336 times last year, with a total of 1,204 victims in flocks of ewes and sheep. To be compared with the 1,126 victims recorded in 2020.

The count is still in progress

The Var daily also specifies that ten wolves were killed by “defense shots”, five died in road accidents and one was the victim of poaching during the past year. The precise count of the number of individuals populating the Var massifs is still in progress.
