Images, motorization, AI… What is this connected surveillance camera worth?

Along with lighting, remote monitoring is one of the pillars of the connected home. And there are countless small cameras that you can activate from your smartphone to keep an eye on your home. In this jungle, the C6 2K + model from the Ezviz company could well stand out for its 2K image quality and the artificial intelligence it embeds. And its moderate price. This is what we wanted to verify by testing it.

Simplicity in purpose

Couldn’t be more cute with its curvaceous face, the Ezviz C6 2K + indoor camera combines all the functions expected of this type of device in a compact format (it measures 9.65 cm in height and 10 cm in width). width) . Starting with its good ergonomics. Simple to install, can be positioned anywhere with its 3 meter power cord, it is quickly connected to the home network (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) and operational. We control its use from a detailed application (but not too confusing).

Smart detection

Then, it is its quality of detection that should be credited to it. Calibrated with artificial intelligence, the C6 2K+ detects noise and movement, recognizes human shapes, animals, and even hand gestures. For the latter, the idea is to be able to trigger – if desired – a video call from the camera to the owner’s smartphone by waving your hand in front of the lens.

Here, we think of a child who, without a smartphone, would like, for example, to alert his absent parents when he returns from school. And it works very well… even if the quality of the speaker and the two microphones of the Ezviz C6 2K+ is not great.

Obviously, at the slightest detection of noise or suspicious movement, the recording of a video sequence is launched, with or without (it’s up to you) the sending of a notification allowing you to see what is happening at home. self. Incidentally, you can also activate the triggering of the alarm integrated into the camera. But with 77 dB on the meter (compared to 90 dB for most alarms), the little camera won’t risk waking up your neighbors… unless you live in an apartment!

A jerky engine

One of the advantages of the camera is also its motorization. Thus, as soon as it detects a human movement, the small ball zooms in on the intruder (up to 4x) and no longer lets go of its prey by following it in its movements. If the movements of the camera are very silent, they are also a little jerky, the ball turning only jerkily. Which is not very serious.

The most unfortunate thing is that the C6 2K + camera can only follow a visitor horizontally (at 353°), and not vertically. Impossible, for example, to monitor automatically any comings and goings on a staircase. A well-advised burglar could thus escape the vigilance of the C6 2K+… In previous tests, we had preferred the fluidity and agility of Yale’s Pan & Tilt motorized camera, but its image was only Full HD.

On the other hand, if you take control of the C6 2K + remotely from your smartphone, it is possible to orient your lens horizontally, but also vertically (from 0 to 133°, therefore rather upwards). And zoom in the image in 8x. What to check if someone is not hiding in the corner of a piece of furniture… or if his pet is not shredding the sofa.

Perfectly detailed images

The video quality of the C6 2K+ is also to its credit. The definition (up to 2,560 x 1,440 pixels) offered offers a good level of detail. Result: no real difficulty in putting precise features on a visitor’s face, unlike many surveillance cameras which do not offer as much precision. Infrared vision at night alters this good impression a little, with less well-defined faces (especially if they are far away)…

Sold for 109 euros, the C6 2K + camera from Ezviz has good arguments to seduce on arrival. The on-board artificial intelligence makes it possible, thanks to precise detections, to avoid untimely alerts. Some efforts on the fluidity of the engine would be appreciated. Warning: if the images recorded by the camera can be stored locally on a microSD card, it is recommended to opt for parallel storage clouds. Indeed, this is the only one that will make it possible to find video evidence if the camera were to be stolen. A subscription starting at 4.99 euros/month (for 7 days of history) will then be required.
