Fans had to wait over 15 years for this: the popular band REM is on stage together again for the first time in a long time.

The iconic band REM performed together for the first time in 15 years. The occasion was the induction of Michael Stipe (64), Bill Berry (65), Peter Buck (67) and Mike Mills (65) into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. On Thursday (June 13), the four members of the alternative rock band performed their legendary hit “Losing My Religion” at the induction ceremony. as “Billboard” reports.

REM members still friends

“Writing songs and having a catalog that we are all proud of and that is available to the rest of the world for all time is undoubtedly the most important aspect of what we have done,” explained Stipe, the group’s former frontman, on stage in New York. The 64-year-old also emphasized that the band members have managed to “remain friends all these decades. And not just friends, dear friends.”

In their long and successful band history, REM is said to have sold over 90 million albums. The last time the band played a full concert was in 2008 in Mexico City. They then disbanded by mutual consent in 2011.

In the show “CBS Mornings” This week, bassist Mills answered the question of what would be needed for the quartet to get back together: “A comet.” Guitarist Buck explained that if REM were to make a comeback, they would “never be as good” as they were in their prime. The musician continued: “I think we stopped at the right time.”
